Can you believe that there is a diet that not only allows but also encourages the consumption of chocolate, red wine and black coffee? If you like these foods, then you will like the so-called ‘sirtfood diet. It was designed and tested by nutritionists Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten that have all the details about the new diet regime presented in the book ‘The Sirtfood Diet: The revolutionary plan for health and weight loss.
This diet is based on consumption of foods that induce the formation of a group of enzymes called sirtuins. Studies have shown that they keep under control the metabolism and accelerate the burning of calories, and also regulate various inflammatory processes in the body and protect the body’s cells.
Examples of foods that activate sirtuin
Drinks – green tea, matcha green tea, unsweetened black coffee, red wine (especially pinot noir)
Fruit and vegetables – citrus fruits, apples, blueberries, dates, celery, kale, onion, arugula, red chicory
Other foods – dark chocolate with a minimum of 75 percent cocoa, nuts, olive oil, buckwheat, salmon, shrimp
BASIC RULES OF THE DIET
It is performed according the weekly schedule and is based on a restrictive calorie intake.
- The first three days, it is entered 1,000 calories a day by eating 3 smoothies and 1 meal made from ingredients from the list of permitted food.
- From the fourth to the seventh day – 1500 calories per day by eating 2 meals and 2 smoothies.
Goggins and Matten tested the diet only on respondents who were regularly exercised. All respondents, on average, have lost 3 pounds in 7 days.
Nutritionists point out that this is primarily a nutrition regime, not a drastic diet to unhealthy weight loss. The aim is to strengthen the nutrition metabolism and the immune system and improve the general health condition that will, with mandatory physical activity ultimately result in a loss of excess weight.
